The ELEDIA Research Center was pleased to host Prof. William WHITTOW (Loughborough University, UK) for an engaging seminar titled “Why more wireless? From mobile phones to healthcare, sensors to driverless cars, space communications – and beyond”.
Prof. WHITTOW’s talk offered an accessible and insightful journey into the world of wireless communications, starting from the fundamental principles of electromagnetic waves and building towards a broad spectrum of real-world applications. Through clear explanations supported by visual material, the seminar successfully bridged disciplines, making complex concepts approachable to a diverse audience.
Drawing on over 25 years of research experience, Prof. WHITTOW highlighted key contributions spanning radiofrequency materials, wearable antennas, and advanced sensing technologies. The talk explored practical and impactful topics such as the interaction between mobile devices and the human body, innovative healthcare sensing solutions, RFID technologies, and the development of 3D-printed and optically transparent RF components. Applications in emerging domains, including driverless vehicles and satellite communications, further emphasized the pervasive role of wireless technologies in modern society.
By connecting fundamental electromagnetics with cutting-edge applications, the seminar clearly illustrated why wireless technologies continue to play an increasingly critical role in our everyday lives and future innovations.
We sincerely thank Prof. WHITTOW for sharing his expertise and for inspiring the audience with a compelling vision of the wireless world ahead!
