The ELEDIA Research Center is pleased to highlight the invited talk by Prof. OLIVERI, entitled “Electromagnetic Skin Engineering: Toward Intelligent Wave Control in Smart EM Environments”, to be presented on Sunday, 12 July 2026 at the IEEE AP-S/URSI 2026 Workshop on Phased Antenna Arrays and Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), that will be held in Detroit, Michigan (USA).
The talk will address recent advances in the engineering of electromagnetic wave propagation through innovative and cost-effective technologies, with a focus on their role in enabling Smart Electromagnetic Environments.
In particular, Electromagnetic Skins will be discussed as a key enabling paradigm for advanced control of wave propagation in wireless communication and sensing systems.
The presentation will cover the evolution of metasurface concepts toward more versatile and physically consistent design methodologies, including constrained approaches based on non-radiating current distributions, advanced electromagnetic field control strategies for both fixed and mobile wireless links, and the development of next-generation low-cost solutions for integrated sensing and communication platforms.
This contribution aims to provide an overview of recent developments while stimulating discussion on the remaining physical-layer challenges and on future directions in intelligent wave manipulation technologies.
We would like to thank the workshop organizers, Prof. Diego CARATELLI and Prof. Alessio MONTI, for their dedication and for providing an inspiring environment that fosters high-level scientific exchange and collaboration.
