On March 24-25, 2026, Prof. Andrea TRUCCO (ELEDIA@UniGE Director) held the first lectures of the 2026 ETRP Advanced Program on Underwater Engineering.
The training session was focused on Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) systems, covering their working principles, from acoustic wave propagation to strain measurement in optical fibers, and discussing key aspects such as Rayleigh backscattering, gauge length, and system directivity. Particular attention was given to the practical limitations of DAS, highlighting the trade-offs between spatial resolution, sensitivity, and angular response in real underwater scenarios.
