Dr. Arianna Benoni Successfully Defended her Ph.D. Thesis

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Arianna Benoni (ELEDIA@UniTN – DICAM) successfully defended her PhD thesis on “From Smart Entities Design to the Smart EM Planning and Optimization” under the advising of Prof. Andrea Massa.

In her thesis, Dr. Benoni explored different methodologies for optimally planning electromagnetic skins (EMSs) to improve received power in outdoor areas, using a novel System-by-Design (SbD) approach for both single-hop and multi-hop links. Her work further investigates heterogeneous SEME implementations by integrating various smart EM entities into the network. At the same time an automated strategy is proposed to optimize their placement, balancing performance, cost, and energy. Numerical results, dealing with real-world test-beds, are shown to assess the capabilities, the potentialities, and the current limitations of the proposed planning strategies.

Our warmest congratulations to Arianna for this highly deserved achievement!
