The ELEDIA Research Center is pleased to announce that Prof. Michael DUMBSER (DICAM – University of Trento) has been awarded the 50th ERC Grant for the University of Trento, in recognition of his outstanding work on the development of advanced numerical methods for nonlinear hyperbolic partial differential equations, within the framework of the SOPHOS project.
The SOPHOS project focuses on the design of high-order, structure- and operator-preserving numerical schemes for complex PDE systems arising in fields such as fluid dynamics, solid mechanics, plasma physics, and astrophysics. It aims to significantly enhance the accuracy of simulations of challenging phenomena, including turbulence, material failure, fusion plasmas, and relativistic astrophysical processes, while preserving the intrinsic mathematical structure of the governing hyperbolic conservation laws.
With this achievement, the DICAM Department records its 7th ERC Main Grant (including Starting, Consolidator, and Advanced Grants), confirming its position among the leading engineering departments in Europe in terms of ERC funding density and excellence.
Our warmest congratulations on this remarkable accomplishment!
