Course: Inverse Problems and Electromagnetic Diagnostics for Environment (IPEDE)
Dates: 16 – 27 November 2026 (2 weeks, 30 hours/week)
Teachers: MASSA Andrea, OLIVERI Giacomo
ECTS: 6
Website: https://www.eledia.org/eledia-unitn/course/2026-2027.LM.IPEDE.UniTN.TRENTO.IT/
The Master Course is taught in 🇬🇧️ ENGLISH and is offered
- On-site
- On-line (synchronous and asynchronous)
Video recordings, hand-outs, etc. of the lectures will be available off-line!
In this course, you’ll explore:
- The fundamental problems of electromagnetic detection, diagnostics, and imaging
- The difference between forward and inverse problems in environmental diagnostics
- How inverse problems can be addressed through estimation and appraisal
- Why non-linearity and ill-posedness can lead to multiple admissible solutions
- How richer data collections and additional information can improve solution reliability
- Physics-based methods, a priori information, iterative information-acquisition techniques, and example-driven approaches
Whether you are interested in environmental monitoring, electromagnetic imaging, or inverse-problem methodologies, this course will provide you with the tools to interpret ambiguous EM data and obtain more reliable diagnostic solutions.
