Course: Optimization Methods for Electromagnetic Diagnostics of Civil Infrastructures (OMCI)
Dates: 14 September – 22 December 2026 (Semester I)
Teachers: MASSA Andrea, ROCCA Paolo
ECTS: 6
Website: https://www.eledia.org/eledia-unitn/course/2026-2027.LM.OMCI.UniTN.TRENTO.IT/
The Master Course is taught in 🇬🇧️ ENGLISH and is offered
- On-site
- On-line (synchronous and asynchronous)
Video recordings, hand-outs, etc. of the lectures will be available off-line!
In this course, you’ll explore:
- How electromagnetic diagnostics of civil infrastructures can be formulated as inverse problems
- The main challenges of inversion, including ill-posedness, non-linearity, and limited information
- Why regularization and a priori knowledge are essential to obtain reliable solutions
- How optimization methods can solve inverse problems through cost-function minimization or maximization
- Deterministic, stochastic, single-agent, and multi-agent strategies for advanced EM diagnostics
Whether you’re interested in infrastructure monitoring, electromagnetic imaging, or optimization algorithms — this course gives you the methodological tools to solve the unseen through EM inversion.
