The ELEDIA Research Center is pleased to announce the Special Section on “Smart Electromagnetic and Radio Frequency Environments: Theories, Technologies, and Advanced Applications” in the IEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation (OJAP).

This Special Section aims to provide a premier platform for researchers, engineers, and academicians to disseminate cutting-edge research, novel theoretical frameworks, and practical experimental validations driving the evolution of Smart Electromagnetic and RF Environments — from lab-scale successful experiments to real-world competitive solutions for next-generation wireless systems.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Fundamental theories, information-theoretic models, channel modeling, and performance limits of Smart EM/RF Environment-assisted wireless systems
  • Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), advanced passive EM skins, conformal metasurfaces, and AI-enhanced micro-scale design of SEME devices
  • Machine Learning and Deep Learning frameworks for real-time surface configuration, channel estimation, and dynamic beamforming in mm-Wave and sub-THz scenarios
  • Methodologies for addressing the computational complexity of large-scale, multi-objective Smart EM/RF deployments
  • Deployment strategies for Smart EM Environments in 5G-Advanced and 6G networks, including massive MIMO and joint communications and sensing (JCAS)
