The ELEDIA Research Center is pleased to share that on May 17, 2026 Prof. Giacomo OLIVERI delivered a keynote speech at the IEEE International Conference on Radio Frequency and Antenna Technologies (RFAT 2026), held on May 15–18, 2026, in Shenzhen, China.
The keynote, entitled “Engineering the Future of Wireless: Breakthroughs in Electromagnetic Skin Design and Demonstrations”, was presented in a distinguished session chaired by Prof. Wei SHA.
In his talk, Prof. OLIVERI highlighted how advanced and scalable electromagnetic technologies are redefining wave propagation control, enabling the development of next-generation Smart Electromagnetic Environments.
Particular emphasis was placed on Electromagnetic Skins (EMS), which are rapidly transitioning from theoretical concepts to practical solutions for anomalous wave manipulation.
The keynote addressed key open challenges at the physical layer, introducing innovative synthesis approaches based on non-radiating currents, as well as advanced field-shaping techniques
for both fixed and mobile wireless systems. The discussion also explored the path toward cost-effective, high-performance EMS architectures suitable for large-scale integration.
