The ELEDIA Research Center is pleased to promote a new open PhD position based at the University of Rennes, France, focused on cutting-edge AI-driven antenna design.
Topic: Artificial Intelligence–Driven Design of Irregularly Tiled Phased Array Antennas
Focus: This PhD addresses the design of next-generation large phased array antennas.
The research will leverage Artificial Intelligence–based modeling and optimization techniques to explore irregular and modular tiled array layouts, aiming to:
– Reduce system complexity and energy consumption
– Enable scalable, high-performance phased array architectures
– Meet stringent constraints
Objectives:
– Develop novel modular phased array concepts
– Create AI-driven electromagnetic performance prediction models
– Design optimization frameworks for large-scale, irregular array layouts
– Validate results via full-wave simulations, prototyping, and experimental measurements
Work Environment: The PhD will be carried out at IETR (Rennes, France), with strong involvement of two world-class technological platforms:
– nR (NanoRennes) – microfabrication facilities
– M²ARS – advanced antenna prototyping and measurement platform
Profile:
– MSc (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Physics
– Strong background in antenna theory, microwave engineering, and antenna arrays
– Good proficiency in spoken and written English (French not required)
– Motivation to work at the intersection of Electromagnetics and Artificial Intelligence
Duration: 36 months
Location: Rennes, France
