We are pleased to announce that Dr. Pietro Da Rù (ELEDIA@UniTN – DICAM) successfully defended his PhD thesis on “Innovative Approaches for Enabling Smart Electromagnetic Environments Through the Synthesis of Opportunistic Sources and Large-Size Modular EM Skins” under the advising of Prof. Paolo Rocca.
In his thesis, Dr. Da Rù explored two low-impact strategies to enhance wireless system connectivity within the Smart Electromagnetic Environment (SEME) framework: the first approach, the Opportunistic Sources Synthesis (OSS), optimizes primary sources to leverage EM phenomena in urban environments supported by the Embedded-plus-Environment Patterns (EPEP) prediction method, and the second approach focuses on the design of Modular Electromagnetic Skins (MEMS), large passive structures composed of simple tiles assembled through multi-objective optimization. Both methods have been extensively validated through numerical simulations in realistic indoor and outdoor scenarios.
Our warmest congratulations to Pietro for this highly deserved achievement!
