Abstract

This study investigates the design of planar phased arrays (PAs) characterized by a highly modular architecture. Self-replicating tile shapes are used to generate irregular array layouts consisting of tiles of diverse sizes and equal shapes. These tiles are built by incorporating smaller, congruent copies of a single elementary building element. Through a deterministic optimization strategy, the resultant rep-tile arrangement within the planar PA achieves an optimal compromise among complexity, costs, and adherence to predefined requirements for the radiated power pattern while guaranteeing complete coverage of the array aperture
