The ELEDIA Research Center is pleased to announce an upcoming seminar by Prof. Francesco ANDRIULLI<\/a><\/strong> (Politecnico di Torino, Italy), titled \u201cEM Digital Twins for Head\u2013Brain Medium: Dosimetry, Imaging, Diagnostics<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abstract:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

EEG from scalp potentials, along with its source-reconstruction counterpart, represents a mature and widely adopted modality for activity tracking and functional brain imaging. However, high-resolution source reconstruction remains fundamentally limited by the accuracy and scalability of the underlying electromagnetic models, as well as by persistent computational bottlenecks. In focal epilepsy, these limitations directly impact source localization in presurgical workflows; in brain\u2013computer interface (BCI) applications, they constrain spatial resolution, robustness, and real-time performance.

High-resolution EEG systems are inherently computationally demanding, as a significant portion of the imaging pipeline relies on advanced electromagnetic models describing signal propagation within the head. Consequently, innovations in computational methods, modeling strategies, and algorithmic approaches have become central to cross-disciplinary research at the intersection of Computational Electromagnetics (CEM), neuroengineering, and applied electromagnetics.

This talk will present recent advances in CEM-enabled neuroimaging, focusing on technologies for brain diagnosis, therapy, and interaction. Improved computational methods and dedicated platforms enable more accurate and scalable solutions. Current trends and open Grand Challenges will be discussed alongside established results and ongoing research activities, including those carried out within the ERC project TurboEEG and the EIC Pathfinder project CEREBRO. Without delving excessively into technical details, the seminar will highlight recent theoretical and experimental developments and relate them to applications in diagnostics, immersive neurofeedback, and brain\u2013machine interfaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaker Bio:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Francesco ANDRIULLI received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 2008. After appointments at Politecnico di Torino and IMT Atlantique (France), he is currently Full Professor at Politecnico di Torino. His research focuses on computational electromagnetics, with applications ranging from antennas and microwave systems to biomedical imaging, with particular emphasis on brain imaging.

He is a Fellow of IEEE and URSI and has received several international awards for his contributions to electromagnetics. He currently serves as the 2026 President-Elect of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
