The ELEDIA Research Center is pleased to share that Prof. Andrea TRUCCO (ELEDIA@UniGE Director) participated as a speaker at Il Mare Festival 2026, held on 31 May 2026 in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy.
As part of the event “The University of Genoa and the Sea: Rovers, Drones and Underwater Communications in the Mediterranean”, Prof. TRUCCO delivered a talk entitled “ONDA SU ONDA”, introducing the audience to the challenges and opportunities of underwater
exploration and communication technologies.
The presentation covered several key topics, including:
- The challenges of exploring underwater environments and seabeds
- Why electromagnetic waves are strongly attenuated underwater and must often be replaced by acoustic waves
- Acoustic technologies for imaging, communication, and localization
- The unique characteristics of underwater acoustic propagation
- The interaction between acoustic and electromagnetic waves in modern Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) systems based on submarine optical fiber networks
